“Lake Meahagh House”

“Lake Meahagh House”
Oil on Linen, 8” x 10”

I love to paint a house in front of the ocean or a river, but here is one behind the water! It”s so odd that some trees are in bloom and others haven’t even leafed out. This is a real orange/green composition, but the sky is the palest blue ever..

“Getting Late”

“Getting Late”

Hi there! It’s been awhile but with the holidays, camping in Baja Mexico, having the floors of 4 rooms redone and escaping to Montreal, I’ve had little time to paint. Winter is my least favorite weather but visually most beautiful time of year to me, so I stop often to photograph. This one was taken around 4 or 5 p.m., just getting dark.
Other topic: I’m reading about Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson for book group. Such an acute observer who identified aerial perspective. I find myself thinking about how cool it would be for him to be in the world today and look at our technological marvels. He’d be fascinated.

"Red Building, Ossining"

 "Red Building, Ossining"
Oil on Board, 8" x 10"

I believe this is the third time I've painted this building. I made a special trip back to photograph
at 6 PM because I knew the side of the building would be on fire with the evening sun.

"Maple Avenue, Croton on Hudson"

"Maple Avenue, Croton on Hudson"
Oil on Canvas, 8" x 6"

This is an earlier painting that just needed something.
I think it works now!

"Stanford, New York" February 6

"Stanford, NY"
I was coming home last October from a painting workshop with Andrew Lattimore.
There is a a strange phenomenon: after painting all day visual sensitivity becomes heightened and colors, shapes and lines seem irresistibly beautiful.
It gets a little crazy when I'm looking at a dull grey landscape and think "This is absolutely gorgeous."  On the other hand....sometimes it is! In this case however, the late afternoon sky was
utterly dramatic.

Up the Taconic, Feb. 4

"Driving up the Taconic Parkway"
I have no idea what this little building was for. Gas station? Snacks? It seems closed right now. My husband and I were driving up to the FDR museum and it caught my eye.

"Hilltop Hanover House"

"Hilltop Hanover House"
Oil on Gessobord, 10" x 8"

I went plein aire painting at a local farm with the amazing Jessica Miller.
It was several years ago and I can't remember what her painting looked like
but it was probably wonderful. This kicked around in my studio for a few years,
and then sold at last weekend's Holiday Boutique!

House in Potsdam, NY

"House in Potsdam, NY," 7" x 5," Oil on Wood

Here is another painting from awhile ago.
We drove to Potsdam, NY to pick up our son from college, and
it was freezing and icy! This yellow house
across the street from our B&B was so darling
amidst all that cold snow.
