“Behind Asbury”

“Behind Asbury”
Oil on Canvas, 6”x6”

I was just walking to my car and this group of buildings grabbed my attention.

Pair of Eggs

“Pair of Eggs”
Oil on Canvas, 4”x6”

When you paint eggs, precision is called for. Whenever I paint eggs, I promise myself it will be a very long time before I do it again. The last time was a long time ago, lol.

White Bowl II

“White Bowl II”
Oil on Wood, 6” x 6”

I don’t know what it is about an empty bowl, but I’m just drawn to this image.

“Venice”

“Venice”
Oil on Wood, 6” x 8”

Yet another revisitation of an old painting. I loved bringing out the highlights, showing that warm wonderful Italian sun. This was from a show I did with Lavinia Wiggins called “Postcards,” about places we’ve been or wanted to have been. I still would like to go to Venice!

“Mexican Sun Shell”

“Mexican Sun Shell”
Oil on Canvas, 8”x6”

We were in Mexico a year ago, and the sun was so bright and beautiful. I took pictures of many shells that were in the collection of our Airbnb hosts. I didn’t want to go crazy and paint one of those spiny ones...oh the detail! But I think that might be my next one. Negative shapes galore!

"Sparrow"
6" x 6," Oil on Wood

I think it's a sparrow. I once raised a sparrow from babyhood when I was young. We slowly got her used to being outside . I remember teaching her how to fly. There was an interim during the summer when she lived outside, but every morning she would come to my window and chirp until I would wake up, open the window and let her inside. I would then go down to the kitchen and feed her.

"Love Those Barista's!"

"Love Those Barista's!"
6" x 8," Oil on Canvas

This is my experiment with texture and Diebenkorn ( Thiebaud?) colors.
Yes, I wish I was in California, although I have to say in the sixties, mid February, New York isn't bad. I went for a walk during my lunch hour.

"He said What!?"

"He said What!?"
6" x 8," Oil on Wood

This guy seems so stern, but there seems to be a tiny bit of insecurity behind that gaze.

"Dreamy Eastern Bluebird"

"Dreamy Eastern Bluebird"
6" x 6," Oil on Wood

It's been awhile since I painted a bird. I believe it's an eastern bluebird. Funny how each one seems to develop a personality that goes beyond the initial photograph. Often I find when I paint something I discover much more about the subject during the process.

"Out in Back"

"Out in Back"

This is the view from my deck and it's always changing with the light.

"White Pitcher"

"White Pitcher"
6" x 6," Oil on Board

I've been on vacation for almost two weeks, and this is the first painting I've done since. It's always tricky doing that 'first one' and it was kind of tough, but then I got into adjusting the curves and edges.

Exciting day at the library tomorrow - Adriana Trigiani, yes that Adriana Trigiani, is coming to speak at a fundraiser.

Update: she was great!

"Hilltop Hanover House"

"Hilltop Hanover House"
Oil on Gessobord, 10" x 8"

I went plein aire painting at a local farm with the amazing Jessica Miller.
It was several years ago and I can't remember what her painting looked like
but it was probably wonderful. This kicked around in my studio for a few years,
and then sold at last weekend's Holiday Boutique!

House in Potsdam, NY

"House in Potsdam, NY," 7" x 5," Oil on Wood

Here is another painting from awhile ago.
We drove to Potsdam, NY to pick up our son from college, and
it was freezing and icy! This yellow house
across the street from our B&B was so darling
amidst all that cold snow.

Red Building in Ossining, NY

"Red Building in Ossining, NY"

We kicked along Ossining on a beautiful sunny morning awhile ago and saw this building
lit from the back. So we returned later toward sunset and the front of this
house just glowed! ...and that's the Hudson River just behind it.
Now I've heard they are going to eventually
tear it down  :(

"Oregon Field," 8x6 inches, Oil on Canvas
Landscape is my first love in painting. I used to drive through the
Illinois cornfields and wonder at the beautiful changing skies.
Oregon is just as gorgeous!
